Now that Andrew Brash has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Chomolungma or Mount Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. The 76-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Everest. They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”
“The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the Mount Everest. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Mount Everest is shared by two countries. This season Anthony Loeff the French mountaineer is reporting the scales for Mt Everest after reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania earlier this year.
Min Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Chomolungma. Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”
As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.
His first found him within 248 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Three years later, Andrew Brash, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to the Mount Everest to finish what he had started.
Climber from Nepal, 74, oldest person to climb Chomolungma or Mount Everest Therefore, he was all too aware of the potential dangers Chomolungma could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused “Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.
Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. More than 3193 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.
Sherchan just 10 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.
However, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Min Bahadur Sherchan with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side.

According to reports Lance Armstrong is seriously considering coming out of retirement to race in the Tour De France and Try and win it for an eighth time. These reports say Lance is so disturbed by the attacks on him from the French Media about Steroid use that he wants to race and win one more time.
I hope Lance Armstrong does come out of his short lived retirement and win an Eighth straight Tour De France. As a proud American I do take great pride in having this Cancer Surviving American beating the best in the world in what may be the most grueling athletic event ever.
Lance Armstrong do it right. Make sure that after you do win that 8th straight Tour De France that there can be no doubt in anyones mind that you used steroids. Lance you need to be ready willing and able to go above any testing standards that currently exist today.
Lance you need to agree to be tested by an Independent Testing agency jointly approved by the French press and officials from Team Discovery. You need to agree to random tests anytime anywhere from this Independent Testing agency. You need to allow this Independent Testing agency to publish the results of every single test.
Lance when you do win this 8th straight Tour De France at an age when athletes in other sports have long since been sent to the retired Athletes home, with strict verifiable, public testing. You are indeed proving to the world you don’t need no stinking needles to be a Winner.

All 32 teams have played two matches as the World Cup groups have started to take shape. Some teams have qualified for the knockout stage while others will sweat on the last match. This is a short round-up of Groups E to H, of the results as they stand after two matches.
Group E
1. Italy 4pts, 2. Czech Republic 3pts, 3. Ghana 3pts, 4. USA 1pt
Italy drew 1-1 with the USA in a bad tempered game to lead Group E by a single point. Alberto Gilardino broke the deadlock after 22 minutes but an own goal from Cristian Zaccardo five minutes later drew the sides level. Daniel de Rossi was sent off for the Italians after 28 minutes while Pablo Mastroeni and Eddie Pope saw red for the Americans after 45 and 47 minutes.
The Czech Republic are in real danger of not qualifying from the “Group of Death” after Ghana defeated them 2-0. Gyan Asamoah sent the Black Stars on their way inside the first minute and Sulley Muntari sealed an unlikely 7/2 (Coral) victory with nine minutes left.
Group F
1. Brazil 6pts, 2. Australia 3pts, 3. Croatia 1pt, 4. Japan 1pt
Brazil are still not firing on all cylinders but made it two victories out of two against plucky Australia. Adriano got off the mark three minutes into the second half but it wasn’t until substitute Fred struck two minutes from time that a 1/4 (Coral) victory was secured.
Croatia need to beat Australia in their final match to have any hope of qualifying after a goalless draw against Japan. Former Portsmouth goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi was inspired in the first half and saved a penalty from Darijo Srna to keep the scoreline level.
Group G
1. Switzerland 4pts, 2. South Korea 4pts, 3. France 2pts, 4. Togo 0pts
Switzerland topped the group after a comfortable victory against rock bottom Togo. Alexander Frei gave the 4/6 (Coral) Swiss the perfect start after 16 minutes and Tranquillo Barnetta added a second with three minutes remaining.
Former world champions France need a victory against Togo if they are to qualify for the last 16 after throwing away a lead against South Korea. Thierry Henry gave France the lead after eight minutes but Les Bleus failed to capitalise on a dominant performance and allowed Park Ji-Sung to snatch an equaliser with 10 minutes left.
Group H
1. Spain 6pts, 2. Ukraine 3pts, 3. Tunisia 1pt, 4. Saudi Arabia 1pt
Spain continued their promising start to the tournament after coming from behind to beat Tunisia 3-1. Jawhar Mnari capitalised on a defensive mistake to give Tunisia the lead after seven minutes and it wasn’t until the final 20 minutes that 1/2 (Coral) justified their price. Substitute Raul levelled on 71 and Fernando Torres put Spain in front four minutes later. Torres became the Cup’s leading goalscorer with three goals when he converted an injury time penalty.
Ukraine’s qualification to the second round was back on track after they crushed Saudi Arabia 4-0, wiping out the negative goal difference sustained by a same score defeat by Spain in the first match. Andriy Rusol opened the scoring after three minutes, Sergei Rebrove struck a magnificent second on 35, Andriy Shevchenko scored on the stroke of half-time and Maksim Kalinichenko netted the fourth on 83.

Exercising and dieting are tasks that are very difficult for many of us, but usually just the thought of it that makes us queasy. There are some simple ways to get out and get fit, and you just might enjoy yourself too.
Some people like to get up and head to the gym every morning, before most of us are even out of bed. We all know that even a little exercise will be good for us, but we just don’t have the time or the motivation. Gym memberships can be a very expensive cost.
Find ways to get fit, no matter how. A gym membership is not the answer for a lot of people, but that is no excuse for laziness. Exercise equipment is right under your nose; just find something that works for you.
- Walking is still regarded as a fantastic way to exercise. Thirty to sixty minutes a day will get your blood pumping and metabolism moving. Walk around the neighborhood or find a city park.
- Use a bicycle for transportation. Of course, many times this is not possible, but bike when you can. Eventually, you’ll push yourself to go farther distances. Don’t forget your helmet.
- Pushups and sit-ups are still recommended by your gym teacher. They are easy exercises that you can do at home. There are plenty of add-on products that can increase the productivity of the simple exercises. Incorporate free weights as you do you sit-ups. Remember those crunches?
- Recycle gallon milk and juice jugs. A gallon of water weighs almost 8 pounds. The jugs even come with a convenient carrying handle. One in each hand is enough resistance for toning arm curls.
- Think thin and fit. We forget the power of the mind and its ability to heal the body. Concentrate on your exercises and dieting feats as you perform them. You’ll create a life changing mindset that is necessary to achieving your goals.
Taking control over your weight and diet is only a couple steps away. Use common sense and think of simple solutions that you can do at home. Set good, aggressive goals in your endeavors, but break them down into smaller sub-goals so you can see your progress without getting discouraged. Reevaluate your goals as you go and make changes without losing sight of the end goal.

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho’s personal attacks are
beginning to overshadow the game.
On Saturday the showdown between Chelsea and Arsenal was a
cracking game of football. Whoever you support, and I support
neither, Arsenal were out-gunned by a dominent Chelsea side who
scored 2 outstanding goals - read all about it by
clicking here.
But what are we all talking about - Mourinho and Wenger’s
slanging match! And I suppose I’m guilty too!
So on Sunday we all thought that it was Jose who had been the
unsporting one by running into the tunnel at the end of the
match, but today the press is full of a different story.
Last week, in a moment of Christmas spirit, Jose sent out
Chelsea Christmas cards to his 19 other Premiership
counterparts, but he reserved a special handwritten message for
the Gunners boss. The message apparently included an apology for
the recent remarks and a wish to bury the hatchet.
When the letter arrived at Highbury, Arsene choked on his mince
pie whilst one of the Arsenal back-room staff tried to find out
if the message was genuine.
At Sunday’s match Mourinho apparently waited around for Wenger
at the start of the match in order to shake his hand, but was
ignored by the Arsenal manager. And this was how it carried on
during the match aswell.
When the match was over Mourinho had had enough and buggered off
quickly.
Personally I’d have hung around to shake Wenger’s hand. It was a
win-win situation for Mourinho! Either Wenger would have ignored
the gesture and millions of viewers would have seen an
unsporting action. Or, if they had shaken hands, Mourninho could
have rubbed it in a bit more by saying “better luck next time,
keep trying!”
Either way, according to Sam Allardyce it’s all because the pair
are foreigners: “I don’t think that is the British way.”
Perhaps having loads of money and winning all the time is just
plain boring for Mourinho and this is his way of spicing it up!
Arsenal and Chelsea have played their matches now this season,
with the spoils going to Chelsea, perhaps the two will shut up
and let the football do the talking, but I doubt it!

Betting “marquee” or television games is a popular Saturday recreational activity for squares and wise guys that causes radical fluctuations in the spread and can turn a sure winner into a sure loser. To protect us from denting our bankroll in the first weeks of the season we see the value in wagering on NCAA football games that are under the radar. The more obscure the game the better. What does it matter if you win a nickel on Eastern Michigan or on the University of Michigan? This means you won’t see Kirk, Lee and Chris spotlighting these games on Saturday morning.
In this space this college football season you won’t see us recommending a lumber-play on USC, Texas or Iowa. In fact, the games we recommend you’ll have a hard time finding on television, unless you live within the region. So fire-up the gamecast at your favorite online sports news website and flex your “refresh button” finger since the scoring lag will be great and they won’t flash the score in the middle of the Notre Dame-Michigan game. Despite the setback of easily finding an accurate up-to-date score, and if you can bear betting a game you can’t watch, we believe that you’ll get as much value, if not more, betting schools in smaller conferences than you will in the bigger conferences where square money can and often does kill your bet or parlay.
This week, we have two games that the line has moved in our favor, despite being bet up early. We see that EMU has moved from five points to seven points and North Texas has moved from five points down to four. Now lets take advantage of the steam since we see something that the early money has not.
EMU EAGLES (-7) vs. ULL Ragin’ Caguns (56 O/U)
This week we turn our attention to Yipslanti, Michigan. This added game opened with the Eagles as a 5-point “chalk” but was quickly bet up to seven by gamblers looking to get on the offensively minded Eagles before the square money takes over Saturday morning. So far the steam is on the Eagles and that makes me like this play even more. The total has remained locked at 56 points as the odds brokers fully expect this game to be a high scoring affair. We see the number in this game (even at five points) inflated due to several reasons. First and foremost is the 60-3 dismantling of the Ragin’ Cajuns by the Texas Longhorns. While Texas dominated every aspect of the lopsided affair, one has to consider that the Ragin’ Cajuns were one of the only teams in Louisiana playing last week in the aftermath of Katrina and about 20 players are from the New Orleans area. The Eagles dropped their season opener to Cincinnati 26-28, but led at the half 20-14. However, it was the stellar play of the Eagles QB Matt Bohnet and the woeful display of the Cajuns defense against Texas that is also likely to account for the large number. Against the Bearcats, Bohnet went 22-of-33 for 167 yards and a 27-yard scoring pass to Eric Deslauriers in the first quarter. Bohnet accounted for 65 rushing yards on 10 carries making him the Eagles leading rusher.
Looking at this week’s battle between the Sun Belt and Mid-American Conferences, we see a much more favorable situation for the Ragin’ Cajuns-despite going on the road for their second straight week. Both teams bring identical 0-1 records and look at this game as a must win. No doubt about it, the Eagles are loaded with offensive weapons, however, their running game is suspect as is the case when your QB is your leading rusher. On defense, the Eagles had a hard time stopping the Bearcats as they allowed 469 yards of total offense of which 293 yards were rushing yards. Good thing for the Eagles they’ll face an aerial attack by the Ragin’ Cajuns as they get back their star WR Bill Sampy after he served his one-game suspension last week. Last year Sampy led the team with 57 receptions and 6 TDs. You can count on the Cajuns to throw the ball since their starting TB Chester Johnson is nursing an injured shoulder and is questionable for the EMU game. This is the first time that these two teams have met, and we see the teams trading points throughout this game as both team’s defenses have proved porous. One statistic that fell by the wayside in the Ragin’ Cajuns’ loss to Texas was that of the 418 yards allowed, the Cajuns managed to hold Texas’ air attack to 173 yards. If the Cajuns can hold Bohnet to pedestrian numbers they’ll even have a shot at winning this game.
Pick: ULL Ragin’ Cajuns +7
MTSU BLUE RAIDERS (-4) vs. North Texas Mean Green (48 O/U)
Question: How do you not bet North Texas when they’re grabbing four points against a team they have never lost against? Mean Green puts its 25 game Sun Belt Conference winning streak on the line as they travel to the MTSU Blue Raiders this weekend. Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened the Blue Raiders as a 5-point home favorite and set the total at 48 points, the total has not moved while the early action had bettors grabbing the five points for the four-time defending Sun Belt champions. Maybe it is I, but don’t you see something funky in that number, something that screams sucker bet? Due to the devastation from Katrina North Texas’ opener at LSU was postponed, while the Blue Raiders dropped their first game against the Crimson Tide 26-7. In their loss one thing was abundantly clear to all who watched the game, the Blue Raiders will have to figure out their running game if they hope to win this week against North Texas. Against the Crimson Tide’s stingy defense MTSU managed a paltry 34 yards on 25 carries! However, playing against a North Texas team with four new DL starters maybe the balm the Blue Raider running game needs.
We’ll see if having played one game versus a team that has not played a game yet will make a difference. Keep in mind that North Texas has lost eight straight season openers. There is also the revenge factor for the Blue Raiders. Recalling last year at Denton, Texas when these two teams went head-to-head, MTSU held a 14-0 lead over Mean Green (who were a 3-point favorite) until the second quarter when the Blue Raiders gave up 24 points and suffered a tough 30-21 road loss. Last year’s loss was MTSU’s fourth consecutive loss to North Texas. Remember, defensively last year was a down year for Mean Green and certainly this year is still a rebuilding year for the DBs and DLs (four new starters). These are a few of the reasons that the Blue Raiders are the favorite in this game. However, what I believe is the key factor for North Texas in this game is red-shirt freshman Daniel Meager taking over for Scott Hall. True, all Meager has to do is not lose the game by handing the ball off to stud RB Cobbs and Thomas. But this is Meager’s first start in the NCAAs and it comes on the road at Floyd Stadium. For the Blue Raiders I see QB Clinton Marks having a better day than against the Crimson Tide (12-of-18 attempts for just 117 yards and a 14-yard TD toss). On defense, Blue Raider linebacker Jonathan Bonner returned from a season ending neck injury in ‘04 and collected 5 1/2 tackles. Bradley Robinson had significant impact against Alabama with 8 1/2 tackles and one interception.
Answer: You bet against North Texas because they are playing their first game of the season on the road with a red shirt freshman quarterback against a team that has one game under their belt and a super accurate passer and is looking to revenge a loss. Despite the power running game the SBC streak ends at 25 for North Texas.
PICK: MTSU -4
